It is a 2.3-mile-long trail that provides access around San Clemente, which runs along the shoreline of the city’s unbroken sandy shoreline in Orange County. This large dirt path is popular with cyclists, walkers, and runners because of its wide width. People who want to go to the beach can park at any of the beaches that are on the way to the beaches (see the map above and read the individual beach pages for directions). However, if you are biking, it is advisable to start at either end so that you do not have to bring your bike down a flight of stairs.
Located at North Beach, the northern trailhead of the San Clemente Coastal Trail offers access to a popular beach with facilities and a beachside cafe.
The trailhead for the southern trail is located at Calafia Beach, which also includes a cafe and excellent facilities.
The trail’s halfway is located near San Clemente Pier Beach, which is a popular tourist destination. If you don’t want to travel the entire trail, this is a wonderful place to begin your journey.
Parking at the endpoints and in the vicinity of the San Clemente Pier is subject to a cost. Free street parking is available at the neighborhood beach access locations, but it is typically located high on the cliff above the trail and the beach. If you are not interested in riding, any of these beach accesses are a viable alternative.
The path is open from 4 a.m. to midnight every day, with the most of it open until midnight. The only exception is the southern portion, which runs from the south T-Street restrooms to Calafia Beach and is open from 6 a.m. until midnight. until 10 p.m.
Dogs are permitted on the route as long as they are restrained by a leash no more than 6 feet in length. Because there are bikers on the trail, it is critical that they remain in close proximity to one another.
If you’re visiting San Clemente, make sure to check out the “Pier Bowl” area near the pier, which is usually a highlight. The Fisherman’s Restaurant on the pier is highly recommended, although there are other other restaurants in San Clemente that are equally as good or better.
